Icy Rocks and Roots Trail 10K #2

This is my second year doing the Rocks and Roots Trail Series. For this year, I had high hopes of doing a longer distance than the 10K, but lack of training and slick, icy conditions got in the way. Maybe next year I will do a 20k, 30k, or 50k.

The race started out slow because everyone ahead of me was slowing way down for the icy patches, so there was a lot of walking and being cautious in the beginning. After a while, people spread out and the speeds picked up. Then I would hit an icy patch and almost fall and slow down a bit. I saw a few people go down hard on some tricky, icy section. That would give me all the warning I needed to not make the same mistake they just did.

Running on trails is fun. I wore Altra Lone Peak 3.5 shoes this time. They were awesome, except I had a hot spot on my right foot. After the race I found that my insole was shifted enough to rub the inside of my foot. I adjusted it and I don’t think that will happen again.

I also was able to wear my Nuun ambassador race shirt, since it had just come in the mail a few days before the race.

It was a fun morning, and I got through it without injuring myself. I’m looking forward to more trail running this year.
